After thinking it over these past few days, I have come to the conclusion that the ending of Soul Eater wasn't exactly the worst one. I merely expected more out of it and was disappointed by what I got- but now I see that we got a 'decent' ending.
Although the Crona issue comes into the play now.
That is the part which still is of debate, but after thinking it over, I realized what I believe to be what Okubo was going for in regards to how he ended Crona's story.
He wanted the reader to decide what happened!
Is Crona alive or dead?
What is Crona's ultimate fate?
This is actually a breath of fresh air for me because, unlike Okubo's choices, I can decide a rather fitting ending for Crona that I can believe in based on what I think happened.
What Rolo thinks happened to Crona
We don't hear anything much of Crona in this chapter, because his story ended in the last chapter!
Crona is a character who was threatened by the Madness because he could never get close to people only to end up overcoming that Madness thanks to the support of his friends.
So how best to end his story than by Asura telling Crona that one day his support will crumble and he will once again fall into Madness? (And he'll be waiting for that day to break free once more...)
Now Crona has achieved godhood but at a price: He can not leave the moon since he has become both the seal that incases Asura and the guard that watches to make sure he never escapes again.
A fate he must uphold for the rest of time. (A fate worse than death; not like I saw something harsh like this coming)
It is in by belief that Crona's Madness is the Madness of Bonds. (The Boob bullshit is not canon in my opinion)
The Madness of Bonds is what the Madness of Fear became when Crona took the spot Asura originally held. This is because Asura's original fear was having bonds to others, so Crona has merely changed the Madness to focus on the core fear that Asura once held. The Madness of Bonds represents a person's obsession with their ties and connections to other people. To family, friends, and the like. This can even extend to strangers:
"What do other people think about me?"
"Oh, I hope they aren't thinking about me right now."
"They are talking about me now, aren't they?"
The person infected with this Madness is obsessed and paranoid over their bonds.
This can manifest in many different ways, just some being:
1. One who can't stop thinking about the one they have to make a bond with; even if the other doesn't want it.
2. One who is used by the people they have bonds with; taking control over their lives.
3. One who fears that they will be the only person not included in something; pushing themselves to come to any activity.
And so on-
The Madness of Bonds is meant to symbolize a chain that connects one to another, preventing their freedom.
Ironically, Crona's freedom has now been taken from him because of his bond to Asura as the one who sealed him away and must watch over him.
And that is a rather 'brief' explaination of what I believe happened to Crona.
So what do you think happened?
